Youth developmentthrough the anaheim family YMCA's youth development programs, youth and teens have safe spaces to explore their unique talents and interests, take a greater interest in learning, and make smarter life choices. All YMCA youth programs promote: honesty, caring, respect and responsibility. These building blocks of life are modeled by y staff and volunteers and instilled in youth every day. Afterschool care: started in 1999, the anaheim achieves afterschool program is offered at schools throughout anaheim (23 elementary, six junior high and five high schools) in person in partnership with the anaheim elementary and anaheim union high school districts, city of anaheim, california department of education and orange county department of education. The program has received state and national recognition for its commitment to community collaboration and dedication to educational excellence. Anaheim achieves provides a safe, positive and enriching place for more than 8,400 students after school. Before school: the anaheim achieves before school program is offered at 5 late start aesd site locations- gauer, loara, revere, sunkist and westmont. These schools do not operate until 8:50am and families have the option to drop off their child in the before school program between the hours of 6:30am-8:30am. Children are supervised by trained staff and provided with homework help, hands-on enrichment activities and outdoor recreational time. The program serves an average of 125 students and is free-of-cost for families, where funding is provided by aesd. Parents and caregivers can continue going to work or school knowing that their child will be in a safe and fun program where they can learn, grow and reach their fullest potential before school.day camps: YMCA day camps provide opportunities for children when they are not in school during winter, summer and spring breaks. Day camps continue fun learning experiences until school starts again, helping to close the achievement gap that can result in youth falling back when they begin school again. YMCA day camps provide fun, safe, all-day learning environment. STEM (science, technology, engineering, math): according to the u.s. Department of education, all young people should be prepared to think deeply and to think well so that they have the chance to become the innovators, educators, researchers, and leaders who can solve the most pressing challenges facing our nation and our world, both today and tomorrow. But, right now, not enough of our youth have access to quality STEM learning opportunities and too few students see these subjects as possible careers. In response, the y is creating opportunities for youth to explore STEM and develop decision-making, problem-solving and analytical skills by helping students learn to solve problems, spark curiosity and creativity, reshape "failure", interest and prepare students for future STEM careers and reinvent the way students see and feel about science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Avanza (workforce development): the avanza program was developed in 2019 in partnership with disneyland resort in an effort to help with workforce development. The avanza program has been designed to support soft skills development, ensure education and skills development are geared towards the learner and lead to jobs, establish stronger connections between job skills training and employers' needs and benefit underserved youth in our diverse community. The curriculum focuses on 4 soft skills: social skills help people get along well with others; communication skills refer to the specific types of communication used in the workplace, and include oral, written, non-verbal, and listening skills; higher-order thinking consists of problem solving, critical thinking, and decision making; and self-control/positive self-concept refers to one's ability to delay gratification, control impulses, direct and focus attention, manage emotions, and regulate behaviors. Self-control is an intrapersonal skill, foundational to many others: it enables successful decision-making, resolution of conflict, and coherent communication. Students can participate in 3 pathways: resume building, interview skills, and networking. Participating students received not only soft skills training and interpersonal connection, but also technology skills and adaptability training. Youth sports: through YMCA youth sports programs, over 4,600 young people learn about teamwork, staying active, and developing lifelong healthy habits. These programs and classes are held at various city community centers and gyms, including downtown anaheim community center, downtown anaheim youth center, west anaheim youth center, twila reid park, pearson park, and stanton park. The youth co-ed volleyball league (ages 9-17) introduces boys and girls to volleyball, focusing on team play, character building, and teamwork. Youth basketball (ages 3-17) teaches basic basketball skills, rules, gameplay, teamwork, and character development. Angels nike rbi (ages 7-8) introduces basic baseball skills, teamwork, sportsmanship, and character development. Preschool sports (ages 3-6) offers basketball, soccer, and t-ball. This facility features six soccer arenas that we use for our programs and rent out to the community. It also serves as a venue for numerous special events. We offer a youth soccer league for boys and girls ages 3-17, and the complex has allowed us to expand our youth sports programs to include flag football and street hockey. Additionally, the community complex has enabled us to partner with the orange county soccer club, angels baseball, and the anaheim ducks. We also host over 100 adult soccer groups monthly, serving more than 20,000 adults annually. This space has become a vital part of our community, providing opportunities for physical activity, sportsmanship, and community engagement. Swim lessons: at the y, swim lessons not only save lives but also enrich them by building lifelong confidence both in and out of the water. Trained YMCA staff teach essential swimming and water safety skills, along with fitness, to over 4,000 youth (from infants to 17-year-olds) and adults (ages 18-87) in a fun and positive environment across several locations in our city and surrounding areas. Safety modifications have enabled this crucial outdoor programming to continue even when many other youth and fitness programs were closed. The y is committed to inclusivity, prioritizing swim accessibility for all ages by offering adult learn-to-swim classes and year-round senior water fitness classes at select locations.adaptive programs: YMCA adaptive programs serve community members with diverse abilities by promoting physical activity, confidence, social connection, and skill development in a nurturing and supportive environment. Healthy living the y is for healthy living. We believe that being healthy means more than being physically active. It's about maintaining a balanced spirit, mind and body. The y brings families closer together, encourages good health and connects people through fitness, sports, fun and shared interests. The y also hosted a health fair where families were able to get free services, healthy resources, and sampled exercises such as zumba. Family time: providing opportunities for every family to build stronger bonds, achieve greater work/life balance, and become more engaged with their communities. The after-school food program was created to fill the late afternoon hunger gap by providing healthy meals for students in the anaheim achieves after school program. Data revealed that 85% of the students in the anaheim elementary school district are provided with a free or reduced-price lunch, and 7% self-report insufficient food at home to meet their basic needs. Thanks to our partnership with the anaheim elementary school district and anaheim union high school district, we are ensuring that over 3,400 children have access to healthy meals during out-of-school time, when they need them most. We currently serve meals at 30 school sites. As part of our focus on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility, the y is committed to keep children nourished and teaching them healthy habits all year long. Approximately 21,000 meals are ordered every week. Meals are served between 4:45 5:15 p.m.

Social responsibility the y is for social responsibility, where we unite people around the importance of giving back. We are committed to supporting our neighbors and providing opportunities for kids, adults and families to get involved in their community through giving, volunteering, advocating, and getting involved in meaningful ways. We work with volunteers, donors and collaborative partners that span countywide to impact nearly over 20,000 youth, teens and adults annually. Giving: the generosity of others is at the core of our existence and is the reason we are able to give back to the communities we serve. We continually engage funders to help us address critical needs in our community; needs like school-readiness, water safety, safe spaces, health and connections. Through the generosity of our donors and the y's work in the community, we have provided thousands of youth scholarships to ensure that young people have the opportunity to participate in the y's character-building programs. Community support comes through several opportunities for businesses and residents to learn about the y and donate to our cause, including our annual support campaign, YMCA charity golf classic, y annual gala and other giving opportunities. We view all our donors as partners in our impact and we focus on continual donor stewardship and recognition. Volunteering: the YMCA is volunteer-founded, volunteer-based, and volunteer-led. Volunteers are at the heart of every YMCA, and that's why ymcas are at the heart of community life in more than 10,000 communities nationwide.
