About RoundPaper

Making nonprofit data accessible

The smart data platform for nonprofit intelligence. We turn millions of IRS filings into actionable insights for the people who need them.

Why RoundPaper exists

Every year, hundreds of thousands of U.S. nonprofits file Form 990 with the IRS. These filings are public record. They contain detailed information about compensation, financials, governance, and grants. In theory, anyone can access this data. In practice, it's buried in XML files, scattered across government databases, and nearly impossible to search or compare without technical expertise.

RoundPaper was built to close that gap. We collect, clean, and structure millions of IRS filings so that nonprofit professionals, board members, researchers, and the public can find the answers they need without needing a data team.

Whether you're benchmarking executive compensation, evaluating a grantee's financial health, or researching sector-wide trends, RoundPaper gives you the tools to make informed decisions backed by real data.

Who we are

We're a small team with over two decades of experience in the tech industry. We've spent our careers building data systems, and we've watched AI and machine learning reach a point where standardizing, cleaning, and understanding messy public data is finally practical at scale.

Nonprofit data has always been publicly available, but never truly accessible. The technology to change that exists now, and we built RoundPaper to put it to work. No massive team, no venture-backed hype. Just good engineering applied to a problem that matters.

How AI powers RoundPaper

IRS filings are messy. Job titles are inconsistent, financial figures vary in format, and organizations report data in different ways across years. Traditional approaches to cleaning this data are slow, expensive, and fragile. AI and machine learning change that equation entirely.

We use AI and ML throughout the platform, not as a marketing buzzword, but as core infrastructure that makes the data actually usable.

Title Normalization

ML models standardize 29.3M+ job titles so "Exec Dir", "Executive Director", and "ED" all map to the same role for accurate comparisons.

Data Cleaning

AI identifies and flags anomalies, corrects formatting inconsistencies, and validates financial data across millions of filings.

Natural Language Queries

Ask questions in plain English and our AI translates them into precise data queries across the full dataset.

Trend Analysis

AI surfaces patterns and insights across sectors, regions, and time periods that would take hours to find manually.

Our data

RoundPaper is built on IRS Form 990 series filings, the primary public disclosure documents for tax-exempt organizations in the United States. Every data point on the platform comes directly from these filings.

We currently track 3.8M+ filings across 1.7M+ organizations, with 29.8M+ individual compensation records. Data is updated regularly as new filings are processed.
