Data disclaimer
Important information about the data on RoundPaper, including its source, limitations, and how to report inaccuracies.
Last updated: March 22, 2026
Data Source
All nonprofit data on the RoundPaper platform is derived from IRS Form 990 series filings, which are public records available under the Creative Commons Zero (CC0) public domain dedication. This includes Form 990, Form 990-EZ, Form 990-PF, and related schedules as electronically filed with the Internal Revenue Service. RoundPaper does not collect, generate, or fabricate nonprofit financial or compensation data. Every data point displayed on the platform originates from an organization's own filing with the IRS.
Self-Reported Data
Form 990 data is self-reported by the filing organization. The IRS does not independently verify the accuracy of every figure on a Form 990 at the time of filing. While organizations are required to report accurately under penalty of perjury, errors, omissions, and inconsistencies may exist in the underlying filings. RoundPaper presents this data as reported. We do not independently audit or verify individual data points against external sources.
Data Timeliness and Lag
There is typically a 6-18 month lag between the end of an organization's fiscal year and when that filing data becomes available on the platform. Organizations may file extensions, and the IRS processes electronic filings on a rolling basis. As a result, the most recent tax year shown on the platform may still be accumulating filings throughout the year. Data shown for any given tax year reflects filings processed by the IRS and ingested by RoundPaper as of the date indicated on the page. It may not include all organizations that will eventually file for that year.
Amendments and Corrections
Organizations may file amended returns that correct previously reported data. These amendments may not be immediately reflected on the platform. If you are aware of an amended filing that has not been updated, please report it through our Help & Support page.
Compensation Data
Compensation figures displayed on the platform are sourced from Form 990 Part VII and Schedule J. "Total compensation" includes reportable compensation from the organization (Column D), reportable compensation from related organizations (Column E), and estimated amount of other compensation including deferred compensation, retirement benefits, and nontaxable fringe benefits (Column F). This means total compensation figures may be substantially higher than an individual's base salary. A one-time spike in reported compensation may reflect the vesting of multi-year deferred compensation arrangements rather than a single-year pay decision. Individuals who serve in roles across multiple related organizations (common in healthcare systems, university systems, and other affiliated entities) may appear on multiple Form 990 filings. While we attempt to deduplicate where possible, the same individual may appear more than once in aggregate counts.
Named Individuals
Where the platform displays the names of individuals alongside compensation data, this information is drawn directly from the public Form 990 filing as submitted by the organization to the IRS. RoundPaper does not editorialize, rank by merit, or make claims about whether any individual's compensation is appropriate or inappropriate. The display of an individual's name and compensation on this platform reflects the public record and should not be interpreted as commentary on the individual or their organization.
No Professional Advice
Nothing on the RoundPaper platform constitutes legal, financial, tax, accounting, or professional advice. The data and analysis provided are for informational and research purposes only. You should consult qualified professionals before making decisions based on data from this platform, including but not limited to compensation-setting decisions, compliance determinations, or donor due diligence.
No Warranty
Data on this platform is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. RoundPaper does not warrant the accuracy, completeness, timeliness, or reliability of any data displayed on the platform. See our Terms of Service for full warranty disclaimers and limitation of liability.
Reporting Inaccuracies
We take data accuracy seriously. If you believe any data on the platform is inaccurate, outdated, or does not reflect an amended filing, please let us know. We will review the reported issue and update the data if warranted.
