Providence continues to work towards carbon negative and in 2024 decreased emissions by 19 percent compared to our 2019 baseline. Our efforts earned us a system record 55 environmental excellence awards from practice greenhealth and made us the first large system to receive the joint commission's sustainable healthcare certification in 2024 for each of our hospitals. 2024 program service accomplishmentsfor seventy-five years, saint john's health center has offered a range of health care programs and services unparalleled on the westside of los angeles. Providence saint john's health center provides vital community health services and addresses the needs of the uninsured and underinsured through its financial assistance program providing free and discounted care. In cy24, providence ST. John's reported $2.8m in financial assistance (free and discounted care), and $26.5m of unpaid cost of medicaid. Providence saint john's health center is committed to promoting the health and quality of life in its surrounding community. Furthermore, in 2024, providence saint john's health center made progress towards addressing three key identified community health needs as outlined below: 1. Homelessness and housing instability: - community health worker homeless care navigators provided assessment and resource referral assistance for 375 homeless patients visiting our emergency department, successfully connecting 62 of them to a form of housing after discharge from the hospital. - awarded $325,000 to two organizations supporting housing and homelessness in santa monica. - provided medication, transportation services, clothing, and referrals to other services for discharged homeless patients through our care management department. 2. Mental health including substance use/misuse: - trained 176 participants in mental health first aid at community locations in santa monica, holding 18 classes throughout the year. - served 513 participants in our child and family development center's (CFDC) outpatient therapy program -served 37 families (56 children and 60 adults) with home visits through the CFDC perinatal wellness program - provided group therapy services for 72 children and youth through our CFDC child/youth development project. 3. Access to healthcare: - community health actions (chat) teams were deployed to improve access to colorectal cancer screening in zip code 90404/santa monica with lower rates of colorectal cancer screening compliance. - in cy2024, 54 individuals completed risk screenings at 4 events. There were 523 colorectal cancer outreach encounters. 79 fit kits were mailed out to at-risk community members, with 15 fit kits returned. All the returned fit kits screened negative for colorectal cancer. - awarded $100,000 to two local organizations supporting increased access to health care services.
