The jewish federation of greater portland, for 104 years, continues to fulfill its mission to serve and strengthen our jewish community. Thanks to the incredible generosity of our donors, the jewish federation worked tirelessly to move our community, locally and around the world, forward. In 2023-2024, the jewish federation of greater portland focused on implementing recommendations from the jewish community study while responding to unexpected challenges. Following the events of october 7, the federation mobilized the community, transforming grief into solidarity and support. Key initiatives included the annual campaign for community needs, the israel emergency fund, and two special campaigns to address community study recommendations and enhance security at jewish institutions across the state.through the generosity of thousands of contributors and a historic bequest from marvin harris, the federation raised over $11.8 million. These funds supported programs that strengthen jewish life locally and in israel, combat antisemitism, and enhance communal resilience. The federations work is made possible by dedicated volunteer leaders, communal professionals, and the support of its donors, ensuring the continued vibrancy and security of the jewish community.
