Pennsylvania psychiatric medical services (PPMS) used to employ the hospitalists responsible for the physical health care services to the patients of pennsylvania psychiatric institute (ppi). Every inpatient of ppi receives a history and physical exam upon admission. The physicians historically employed by PPMS followed the patients for the duration of their inpatient stay for all of their medical care needs.PPMS was the employing entity of certain physicians (hospitalists) employed at ppi when it was owned by a joint venture between upmc and the milton s. Hershey medical center (mshmc). After penn state health, the sole member of mshmc, took over ownership by itself of ppi pursuant to the arbitration final award, all physicians performing services at ppi became employed by either mshmc or penn state health community medical group, LLC, a single member LLC of penn state health. There was no longer a need for a corporate entity to employ physicians outside the existing organizational charts of penn state health.
