Provide initial startup costs and expenses associated with the expansion of the idea public schools system in el paso, TX, aiding in formation, recruitment of teachers, and affiliated organizing expenses. 2017 grant in the amount of $6,812,400 will be paid out over seven years, potentially aiding in opening 20 schools with projected enforllment of 14,000 students by 2023. The total paid through 2023 is $4,123,265. Paid $375,000 of $2.25 grant to harmony public schools for expansion in el paso, bringing total paid to $750,000. Provided $62,134 in support of parent engagement/knowledge initiatives. Generated support for additional and targeted scholarship programs focused on specific career development opportunities, as in the case of attracting more high performing students to the teaching profession, as well as continuing to encourage students, also through scholarship awards, to pursue a bachelors degree in an in demand occupation or career. Also, through a stipend support program, engage teachers during the summer months with employers to expose both teachers and employers to the requirements of the employer, in terms of skills, and the means that teaching those skills can be enhanced in the classroom and through the curriculum. Through various sponsorships, the effort has been to bring attention to expanding opportunities in various fields for all underrepresented students including young women.
