As the largest not-for-profit healthcare system in Texas, we are committed to empowering our patients and communities to live better, and donor support is crucial to advancing this Mission-driven work.Every year, we are grateful for the generosity of thousands of community donors, foundations and corporations who invest in our mission through Baylor Scott & White Dallas Foundation.This collective support enables us to fund innovative research, train future healthcare leaders, purchase advanced medical technology and offer programs that enhance care for patients and communities across Texas. We are incredibly grateful for the accomplishments our donors helped make possible, enabling the Foundation to distribute more than $40 million for priority programs and initiatives in FY24. Below are some of the areas where philanthropic support made a meaningful impact last year:Graduate Medical Education: Texas will face a shortage of over 10,000 physicians by 2032. As the largest not-for-profit health system in Texas, Baylor Scott & White is uniquely positioned to address these challenges. In the next 10 years, Baylor University Medical Center's (BUMC) graduate medical education program will train more than 3,000 physicians. Funding is very complex and somewhat limited, making the role of philanthropy critical in sustaining and growing these programs. Generous donor support provides funding for residencies, fellowships, research and other educational opportunities for postgraduate medical education students at BUMC.High-Risk Breast Screening Program: To help women in North Texas better understand their personal risk and identify breast cancers at their earliest and most treatable stages, Baylor Scott & White Health launched a High-Risk Breast Screening Program in 2020. Generous philanthropic support helped launch this personalized, landmark program and ongoing support helped the program expand to 14 locations across North Texas. To date, the program has already helped identify more than 15,000 women who were at high risk for breast cancer and were otherwise unaware.Promoting Cardiovascular Health and Wellness in North Texas: Baylor Scott & White is committed to advancing cardiovascular health across Texas through exceptional clinical care, patient-centered programs, community outreach, education and research. In North Texas, we're proud to offer some of the most advanced cardiovascular care available in the region at Baylor Scott & White Heart and Vascular Hospital in Dallas and The Heart Hospital sites in Plano, McKinney, and Denton. These hospitals are centers for training future cardiologists and conducting cardiovascular research. Generous donor support allowed us to invest in improving cardiovascular health among the communities we serve through outreach and training, increased access to heart disease screening and care, training cardiology fellows and conducting innovative research.Baylor Scott & White AT&T Memory Center: Someone in the U.S. develops Alzheimer's disease every 60 seconds. By 2050 this is projected to be every 33 seconds. And yet, it's a diagnosis that can feel very isolating. Both individuals affected by Alzheimer's disease and the caregivers who support them need resources to walk through the challenging circumstances they face. Thankfully, Baylor Scott & White AT&T Memory Center has a comprehensive program to support patients with various types of dementia, and their families. Our compassionate team partners with patients and their families to equip them to navigate this disease through extensive cognitive testing, customized treatment plans, access to clinical trials and an array of resources for the emotional, physical, social, and financial well-being of our patients and their families. Having a one-stop shop for diagnosis, care, resources and support has proven to be invaluable for patients and their families and philanthropic support is key to these services.
