The rio grande valley is a medically underserved area. Access and transportation are continuing population needs. With many physicians coming out of medical school preferring employment rather than opening and managing their own office, there is a need to provide physician employment opportunities to encourage physicians to practice in the rio grande valley. In the state of texas, only another physician or a legal entity with a board whose members are all physicians can legally employ a physician. The mission doctors group can employ physicians and has opened clinics to provide residents with adequate access to physicians needed in the area. The organization opened the monarch clinic, a family practice/OB clinic in october 2022, employing two physicians. In 2024, mission doctors group expanded their services to offer bariatric surgery, employing one physician and partnering with an unaffiliated bariatric surgeon to extend their reach to patients.
