The foundation promotes and provides assistance in the establishment, support, and maintenance of not-for-profit health care facilities. It also promotes and provides assistance in health care education. Organizations that meet the above criteria may submit a letter of intent to the land use committee, who recommends the organization to the board of trustees. The board of the trustees grants approval for all qualified land requests and other program service disbursements. During 2024, the estimated value of donated leases for medical organizations was $3,079,458. In an effort to promote health and wellness, a walking/jogging trail is available for use by the general public. The healthy kids project is focused on grades k-2 believing that if you teach the child early in life, you may affect not only the child, but the child's family as well. The project was produced in conjunction with KLRN (public television). The program consists of: 1) interstitials between children's educational programs on KLRN (think commercials on regular television), 2) downloadable lesson plans on the KLRN website for use in classrooms, and 3) DVDS for the classroom and home loan. Lessons include short videos, songs and chants that the students can learn quickly and easily to help them remember such things as "drink water and are available in both english and spanish. Input from local educators, dieticians and physicians was critical in developing the curriculum for this project. The project has been distributed and promoted in school districts throughout the local community. The local chapter of the united way is also using it in several initiatives with children and also parent groups. The lesson plans not only meet the texas educational criteria but has also been modified to meet national educational standards as well. It has been placed on PBS learning media. The healthy kids project is free to everyone. The san antonio mobile mental wellness collaborative is the first of its kind in the nation. The collaborative is made up of several nonprofit organizations who make it their mission to bring the much-needed mental health services out of the agency and into the public school setting. It is an upstream collaborative focusing on prevention so that public schools do not have to concentrate fully on intervention. In order for the collaborative to ensure the partnership is successful and continue to expand and reach more children and their families, it needed an executive director. The foundation provided funds for an executive director's salary and may provide additional funds based on growth and expansion in future years.
