Agenda for children was founded to make louisiana a state in which all children can thrive, by ensuring that the basic needs of children and families are met, that our children are nurtured and well taught, beginning in the early years and continuing through adolescence; that they are protected from harm; and by acting in ways that combat racism and other forms of oppression. Agenda for children has been working to improve child well-being in louisiana for more than 35 years by supporting, informing and empowering the educators, families, policymakers, donors and advocates who impact their lives. Our diversity of programs connect adults to resources, services and networks that can help them support children. Our programs include early childhood opportunity fund (echo), a center for early childhood programs and development, the judy watts center for policy & advocacy, louisiana kids count, and new orleans early education network (noeen).

What They Do

Agenda for children was named the lead administrator of orleans parish's new early care and education millage for 2023-2028. Since then, we have spearheaded the country's third-largest expansion of early childhood education and numerous innovations that have been replicated throughout the state and nation; increasing service by over 160% and reaching over 2,200 children ages 0-3. Afc secured over $21 million in matching state funding through the early childhood education fund (ecef) to support over 700+ accessible early childhood education seats for children ages 0-3. Launched the child care assistance program b-3, adding 470 seats for new orleans children ages 0-3.

$2.4M in expenses

Agenda for children lead sector capacity building by administering a $2.4m wage enhancement grant program, offering up to $3,000 in retention bonuses to over 900 teachers and securing a second year of funding from the city of new orleans.

Agenda for children sub-granted over $5.6m through over 400 grants to child care providers to support quality, facilities, administrative support, and student enrollment verification.

Agenda for children and partners provide instructional coaches to each center participating in the program, who support and develop each teacher with noeen city seats students in their classroom; conduct assessments in the classrooms of the environment (iters) and of the interactions between the teachers and students (class). Agenda also played a major role in facilitating the provision of emergency respite care during hurricanes and the pandemic.
