Memphis athletic ministries, INC. Provides year-round mentoring to at-risk youth, ages 8-18, in under-resourced neighborhoods through 8 youth centers that currently serve over 700 youth daily. MAM's programs- open recreation, organized team sports, academic enrichment, financial literacy/personal financial management, life skills and spiritual training- address the physical, mental, emotional, social and spiritual development needs of the served youth. MAM, in partnership with families/schools/community organizations, implements a three step strategy to teach the youth to love god, others and themselves: 1) attract participation using organized sports2) create a nurturing environment through small mentoring groups 3) provide comprehensive programsmam's program results have been documented- 98% of active participants and 95% of participants' parents reported positive difference in the youth as a result of participating in MAM's programs. MAM also partners with churches,schools and other organizations to offer community-wide sports leagues which promote community involvement and bridge geographic/cultural/socio-economic differences to 8,000+ participants (65% urban; 35% non-urban).
