Building on the legacy of education since 1912, baptist memorial college of health sciences, INC., dba baptist health sciences university (baptist university), is a private institution, which seeks to attract a diverse student population who shares commitments to christian values and ethics, academic excellence, and lifelong professional development. In response to the trust expected of institutions preparing future health care professionals, the academically rigorous environment requires students' active engagement in learning through a variety of instructional modes. In partnership with baptist memorial health care corporation, baptist university extends the learning environment beyond the classroom to include experiences found in health care settings throughout the mid-south. The administration, faculty and staff of baptist university believe that the university has a responsibility to the community beyond that of preparing competent health care practitioners. That responsibility includes serving as a health care resource and providing volunteer services in a variety of ways. The active participation of staff and the opportunity for involvement of students promotes the spirit of volunteerism. This continuing commitment to volunteerism will affect not only the practice of graduates but also their lives as citizens and members of the community.baptist university was chartered in december 1994 as a specialized university offering baccalaureate degrees in nursing (BSN) and health sciences (BHS). Baptist university is accredited by the commission on colleges of the southern association of colleges and schools (sacscoc) to award the associate of science, bachelor of science in nursing, bachelor of health sciences, doctor of nursing practice and doctor of osteopathic medicine. Allied health, nursing, and osteopathic programs are accredited by the appropriate national professional organizations. In addition, the nursing programs are approved by the tennessee board of nursing. Baptist university admits students of any race, color, national or ethnic origin. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, admission policies, scholarship and loan programs, and athletic and other school administered programs. During the fiscal year ended september 30, 2024, baptist university enrolled 1,144 different students in the following programs: - baccalaureate/associate traditional - 830 - baccalaureate completion - 19 - special students - 160 - dual enrollment students (non-degree seeking) - 16 - graduate students - 38 - doctor of osteopathic medicine - 81in fy2024, baptist university awarded 8 doctoral degrees, 156 baccalaureate degrees, and 15 associate degrees. The awards included 101 bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) and 55 bachelor of health sciences (BHS) degrees. The numbers by majors of the BHS degrees were 8 graduates in diagnostic medical sonography, 4 in medical laboratory sciences, 12 in medical radiography, 1 in neurodiagnostic technology, 4 in nuclear medicine technology, 5 in public health, 2 in respiratory care, 4 in radiation therapy technology, 6 in health administration, and 9 in biomedical sciences. Additionally, the university awarded 15 associate of science (as) degrees. The numbers by majors of the as degrees were 5 graduates in pre-health studies, 2 graduates in neurodiagnostic technology, and 8 graduates in surgical technology. The 8 doctor of nursing practice graduates all had concentrations in adult gerontology acute care and primary care nurse practitioner.fall enrollment was 892.financial assistance baptist university offers financial assistance to students in need. Assistance is provided through a variety of sources including scholarships, grants, a work-study program, a loan program, and a tuition deferral program funded by baptist memorial health care corporation and baptist university. All financial aid is awarded on a non-discriminatory basis. Since july 2000, baptist university has also participated in federal financial aid programs for students. Institutional scholarships/academic awardsin fy2024, baptist university disbursed $1.3 million in institutional financial aid to enrolled students. This aid included scholarships, grants, and tuition deferral. Scholarships are both need and merit based and grants are primarily need based. The tuition deferral program allows up to thirty-five eligible clinical students per year to defer tuition during their senior year at baptist university. This agreement requires a work commitment at a baptist memorial health care facility following graduation and licensure equal to one year of employment for each year of tuition deferral.
