The research institute is home to more than 400 investigators and scientists who are nationally and internationally recognized for their expertise in epidemiology, healthcare delivery, health economics, human factors, medical engineering, implementation science, drug development, physiology, social work, and rehabilitation. They work alongside care teams to discover better clinical interventions, serve on editorial review boards of prominent scientific medical journals, present at national medical and scientific meetings, and advance the standard of care for medstar health patients and within the field of medicine. The medstar health research institute is also home to d.c. Safe babies safe moms, an initiative that seeks to use research, evidence-based healthcare, and partnerships with community-based organizations to create positive, sustainable change in maternal and infant health.

See schedule omedstar health research institute's healthcare delivery research is responsible for coordinating and performing research on all aspects of healthcare delivery (quality, safety, accessibility, equity, etc.) across the entire medstar health system. Specifically, the research is aimed to improve the way we deliver care in our healthcare facilities and in the community. Much of the research has focused on using human factors engineering principles, community engagement (such as how to reduce infant and maternal mortality), safety of electronic health record use and identifying unintended consequences, improved implementation in population health and how to achieve health equity for all aspects of our community.

Cardiovascular research is responsible for coordinating and performing a wide variety of cardiology research dedicated to developing new diagnostic and therapeutic technologies to enhance patient care and save lives. Areas of specialization include interventional cardiology devices, cardiovascular imaging and applications of artificial intelligence, heart failure, arrythmias and outcomes research.
