The new york state preferred source program for new yorkers who are blind (nyspsp) is a state-mandated initiative designed to create and sustain meaningful employment for individuals who are blind. Through a network of nine affiliated nonprofit agencies, the program currently employs 431 blind or visually impaired new yorkers. In accordance with state procurement law, state and local agencies are required to purchase designated products and services provided by these nonprofits. In 2024, five individuals employed through the program were promoted, and 50 new projects were added to the nyspsp portfolio, expanding its reach and impact.
