Introduction to ahn allegheny health network (ahn), based in pittsburgh, pennsylvania, is a tax-exempt, patient-centered and physician-led academic healthcare system that provides charitable care and high-quality, comprehensive healthcare services to patients from western pennsylvania and the adjacent regions of ohio, west virginia, new york and maryland. Ahn comprises 14 hospitals and more than 200 primary- and specialty- care practices in more than 300 healthcare sites, including six health + wellness pavilions; surgical centers and outpatient clinics; a research institute; about 2,500 employed and affiliated physicians; approximately 23,000 total employees; hundreds of volunteers; a group purchasing organization; and a complete spectrum of home and community based healthcare services. Ahn was established in 2013, but its member hospitals share legacies of charitable care that date back more than 175 years (west penn hospital was chartered in 1848). Ahn is an integrated delivery system serving as the parent organization of a healthcare system in western pennsylvania. Ahn is the sole member of west penn allegheny health system, canonsburg general hospital, alle-kiski medical center, jefferson regional medical center, saint vincent health center, and grove city medical center. Highmark health serves as the ultimate parent of the ahn affiliates through its position as the sole member of ahn.
