SSM health ST. Mary's hospital foundation provides philanthropic dollars to support the healing mission of SSM health ST. Mary's hospital in providing exceptional, compassionate health care to the people and communities we serve, especially the poor and vulnerable. ST. Mary's hospital is part of SSM health (SSMH) a not-for-profit catholic health care system founded in 1872 by catholic sisters. SSMH is serving the comprehensive health needs of communities across the midwest through one of the largest integrated delivery systems in the nation. With care delivery sites in illinois, missouri, oklahoma and wisconsin, SSMH includes 23 acute care hospitals, one children's hospital, more than 300 physician offices/outpatient sites, virtual care services, 13 post-acute facilities, comprehensive home care and hospice services, a pharmacy benefit company, a health insurance company, and an accountable care organization. The health system employs nearly 40,000 people and is affiliated with 11,600 physicians making it one of the largest employers in every community it serves. In the tradition of its founding sisters, SSMH strives to fulfill its mission by providing exceptional health care to everyone who comes to its hospitals, regardless of their ability to pay. Our top priority is the health, comfort, and satisfaction of our patients. Philanthropic donations help give patients the very best care by funding new equipment and technology, improving patient care areas, training our health care professionals, and ensuring all our patients receive exceptional, compassionate health care. Our current giving priorities are:* areas of greatest need: funds support programs and services most needed to meet the healthcare needs of the communities we serve.* scholarships: funds support education and training of current healthcare staff and students that are in college majoring in a healthcare related field.* medication & transportation assistance: funds provide short-term assistance to patients in need who cannot afford their prescriptions and cannot obtain them in a timely manner from any other mechanism or agency. Funds provide support for transportation programs like healthtran to get patients in need to and from medical appointments.* cancer care: donations to the cancer patient assistance fund provide comforts, medications, transportation and other assistance to cancer patients. The cancer services fund provides support for our cancer center at JCMG.employee relief: this fund was established to assist employees who have encountered financial distress and need assistance to get them over that hump and stay a loyal ST. Mary's employee.* cardiac care: donations enable ST. Mary's to continue its leadership in cardiac and vascular care, including the acquisition of advanced technology and patient services.donations support hospital and facility improvements, add new technology and equipment, support patient care areas, provide continuing education opportunities to medical staff and provide patient assistance through our sisters fund that provides prescription medications to those in need. Recent accomplishments made possible with donations to the foundation include but are not limited to:* funding for transportation assistance for patients in need to get to and from the hospital for appointments.* over $275,000 in scholarships have been awarded to employees furthering their education and training in the healthcare field.* funding for the construction and development of the new cancer center.* funding to facilitate much-needed renovations to our patient floors, creating a more comfortable and healing environment for those in our care. * support for our employees when they face personal disasters and challenges.* adding new equipment and technology to deliver the best care to our patients. * helping our most vulnerable patients by providing prescription medications, as well as clothing items, shoes and other needs to help keep them well after discharge.
