mission statement

Tracy's Kids uses Art Therapy to help young cancer patients and their families cope with the emotional stress imposed by the disease and its treatment. Our work ranges from individual art therapy sessions with inpatients who may be confined to their rooms, to open studio sessions with outpatients who choose what projects to work on and share their experiences while they receive chemotherapy or other treatment. Tracy's Kids programs are provided free of charge to those we serve. Our gifted, compassionate, Masters-trained Art Therapists help kids and families develop strategies for coping with scary procedures, express the fears that might lead to nightmares and social isolation, and communicate with medical personnel.

What They Do

$6K in expenses

We presented our outcomes research preliminary findings at the American Art Therapy Association Conference. We have statistically significant improvement in the positive effects among treatment groups compared to the controls and continue to gain traction on other measures.

Our work at Children's National expanded significantly. Our team of 3 art therapists and 2 interns facilitated approximately 1,700 sessions in a 9-month period, 460 more than the same time frame in 2023. The number of participants increased by over 1,600.

Our other four sites made significant strides as well. They are developing dedicated support for patients in the maintenance phase. They have added a mindfulness group and biweekly yoga/art therapy groups for AYA patients and their families on Zoom.
