Lehigh valley hospital (LVH) is comprised of eight hospital campuses, including LVH-cedar crest, LVH-muhlenberg, LVH-17th street, lehigh valley health network (LVHN)-tilghman, LVH-hecktown oaks, LVH-carbon, LVH-highland and LVH-1503 north cedar crest. LVH offers a continuum of programs in health care promotion, prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation to the community. Extensive inpatient, outpatient and educational services are provided at locations throughout the region and are part of LVHN. They were established to meet the medical, surgical, and educational needs of the residents of the lehigh valley and beyond.LVH serves as a referral center for approximately two million residents of surrounding counties in eastern pennsylvania, with a special focus in the following key areas:lehigh valley topper cancer institute - the LVH portion of the lehigh valley topper cancer institute (lvtci) offers a range of cancer services in four convenient patient-focused locations: the john and dorothy morgan cancer center at LVH-cedar crest, the cancer center in bethlehem at LVH-muhlenberg, in easton at the LVH-hecktown oaks campus, and physician offices and infusion services at the health center at LVH-carbon in lehighton. Cancer care programs include prevention, detection, diagnosis, genetics, patient navigation, nutritional services, social and psychological support, rehabilitation, clinical trials, multidisciplinary/coordinated care, and all forms of therapy. Lvtci continues to be a member of the memorial sloan kettering cancer center alliance, of new york city, since march 2016 and maintains a research partnership with the national cancer institute. The lvtci facilities include physicians' offices, multidisciplinary clinics, conference rooms, private education and counseling areas, radiation oncology, and infusion centers for oncology and non-oncology treatments. In FY 2024, our medical, surgical, and gynecologic oncology physician practices were all transitioned to hospital outpatient departments. The lvtci radiation oncology facilities utilize cutting-edge equipment capable of delivering highly accurate radiation doses, such as linear accelerators with alignrt and calypso for real-time positional monitoring, CT simulators, a gamma knife radiosurgery system, high dose rate afterloaders, and offers a comprehensive array of radiation treatment procedures, including intensity modulation radiation therapy, stereotactic body radiotherapy, stereotactic radiosurgery, high and low dose rate brachytherapy, selective internal radiotherapy, and 3d printing capabilities to create patient-specific devices to optimally modulate the radiation dose. In calendar year 2023, the cancer institute estimates 7,000 new analytic cancer cases. Inpatient oncology admissions were 3,872 in the fiscal year ending june 30, 2024, and outpatient volumes included 30,079 treatment visits for radiation procedures and 56,909 treatment visits for infusion visits. In 2021, the cancer institute was officially renamed the lehigh valley topper cancer institute. The renaming honors joe and maureen topper, who made a generous gift that will be used to bring the most innovative and lifesaving clinical trials to this region. Their gift also complements network investments in advanced cancer treatments and technologies, including STEM cell transplantation and cellular therapies. In fy2024, the cancer institute launched a STEM cell transplant & cellular therapy program, the first of its kind in the region made possible by a generous donation from tom and karin hall. To date, multiple allogeneic and autologous transplants have been successfully completed, and through the work of the program, LVHN has been activated as an authorized treatment center to offer chimeric antigen receptor t-cell therapy treatment to eligible patients. The oncology division of the network office of research and innovation (nori) has continued to meet their yearly clinical trial accrual goals with enrollment to a combination of registry, surgical, treatment, and retrospective chart review studies. Notable accomplishments in 2024 included opening two vaccine clinical trials, including the activation of a 'revolutionary' pancreatic cancer vaccine trial, in collaboration with the memorial sloan kettering cancer center alliance. The trial allowed the lvtci program to enroll 3 patients in the region's only clinical trial involving an immunotherapeutic pancreatic cancer vaccine. Other exciting initiatives in 2024 included activation of the first STEM cell transplant data collection study, titled "protocol for a research database for hematopoietic cell transplantation, other cellular therapies and marrow toxic injuries," through collaboration with the center for international blood and marrow transplant research (cibmtr). Patients who agree to participate will have their data included in the cibmtr database to be used in a variety of research studies about transplant and cellular therapies. All patients who receive a STEM cell transplant or cellular therapy at LVHN will be offered participation in this data collection study.lehigh valley heart and vascular institute - the heart and vascular institute at lehigh valley health network (LVHN) has achieved remarkable milestones during the fiscal year 2024, further solidifying its position as a leader in cardiovascular care.
