As the leaders in coordinating resources to meet the human service needs of our community, the united way of carlisle & cumberland county works with an array of community organizations to build a stronger, healthier carlisle & cumberland county. Together, they address local needs as they relate to the critical areas of health, education, financial stability and safety net. An annual campaign raises necessary funds to support programs that help address the community's most pressing needs. The united way receives funding applications from partner agencies, which are reviewed and assessed by trained community volunteers to ensure that they address and demonstrate positive, measurable results. Funding levels are recommended by the volunteers and approved by the united way of carlisle & cumberland county's board.

The mission of success by 6 is to ensure all children enter kindergarten well prepared and ready to learn. Success by 6 provides training and mentoring to child care providers to improve the quality of child care in carlisle and cumberland county. Outreach initiatives include: school readiness groups, real men read, reach out and read, and week of the young child. Our getting ready for kindergarten calendar is distributed to more than 75 sites. Success by 6 awarded 16 children and $80,536 in scholarships to attend high-quality pre-schools. Businesses and individuals donate to success by 6 as part of the pre-kindergarten educational improvement tax credit program of the commonwealth of pa and through the paul and patricia scholarship program. Success by 6 pays one-half of the total monthly tuition.

Throughout the heating season (beginning november 1 and lasting until funds are depleted), united way of carlisle & cumberland county provides emergency heating assistance to households in immediate danger of being without heat. Applicants must reside in carlisle, boiling springs, mount holly springs, new kingstown, plainfield, or newville, and household income cannot exceed 200% of the federal poverty level. For those that qualify, cash grants are sent directly to the heating company. $7,103 was provided to 19 households.
