The assessment incorporates data from multiple sources, including primary research (through the PRC community health survey and PRC online key informant survey), as well as secondary research (vital statistics and other existing health-related data). It also allows for trending and comparison to benchmark data at the state and national levels. In 2024, 58,290 individuals were admitted to valley, 78,286 people were treated in the emergency department, and 3,905 babies were born. Valley's key services include cardiology, oncology, women's and children's services, emergency care, orthopedics, and neurosciences. Valley also offers the services of a center for minimally invasive and robotic surgery, a total joint replacement center, a neuroscience center, a center for bariatric surgery and weight-loss management, a center for sleep medicine, the gamma knife center, and the kireker center for child development, among others.valley's family care center had 6,678 visits in 2024. Formed in 2020 in the wake of nationwide protests and demonstrations following the death of george floyd, the social equality council aims to provide a forum for individuals throughout valley to have a voice for sharing different perspectives. Valley's social equality strategy has five foundational pillars that reflect the strategic priorities created to enable the organization to address the diverse needs of our staff, patients, families, and the community we serve. This structural framework guides the social equality council in creating an environment where employees, patients, and families feel safe being who they are, while addressing concerns related to race and equality.valley continues to partner with bergen community college to discuss health inequities and health needs of the bipoc community. Valley and bergen sponsored uche blackstock, MD, an ER physician and prominent advocate for health equity, who spoke to 200 community members about why healthcare reform cannot succeed without also addressing systemic racism in society and healthcare.participation in community education classes has grown exponentially through the use of virtual education tools and social media. In 2024, 14,650 people attended free, in-person screenings, exercise programs, and education events. An additional 120,732 people viewed virtual education, podcasts, written education, and social media. In 2024, a total of 149,918 people learned about good health from valley's community health department. When asked, 94.6% of participants shared that they increased their knowledge as a result of attending one of our programs. And 85.3% said they intend to make lifestyle changes as a result of what they learned.over 900 people participated in free blood pressure screening clinics, and 22,329 people participated in programs on cardiac and stroke. Some program topics include women's heart, what is a calcium score, high blood pressure, atrial fibrillation, and tia and stroke.both virtual and in-person sessions of the valley hospital's smoking cessation program were offered in 2024. Of the 45 people who completed the program, 25 people report being smoke-free. Participants also report unexpected benefits after quitting, such as improved taste and smell, better skin and appearance, and even reduced stress levels.three hundred and twenty individuals participated in valley's free walking group exercise programs. Nutrition programs were attended by 13,039 people, covering topics such as fad diets, nutrition trends, nutrition jeopardy, plant-based eating, and nutrition and diabetes.valley works with the other bergen county hospitals, the bergen county health department, and other service organizations on efforts to improve health in our communities. The CHIP is just one community partnership that is dedicated to improving health. As part of the CHIP, valley donates instructors to provide free exercise classes in local parks. Valley also provides in-kind leadership to the board.the northwest bergen regional health commission (nwbrhc) provides public health services to many towns in our area. We partner with nwbrhc to provide public health education and nursing services to 12 of their towns. Valley also provides public health services to the village of ridgewood and child health services to fair lawn and glen rock. Public health nurses play a crucial role in communicable disease control, focusing on prevention, investigation, and education to protect communities. Investigating disease outbreaks works to minimize further transmission. Public health nurses also conduct immunization audits in area schools. In 2024, valley's public health nurses completed almost 3,000 investigations and audited 86 schools with 6,809 records.valley is proud to affiliate with high-quality organizations to offer our patients the best care and service.
