The arh foundation for healthier communities was founded in 2006 and serves as the philanthropic arm of the not-for-profit appalachian regional healthcare system. The arh foundation was established in response to the growing healthcare needs of communities that consistently fall below the national average in key health indicators. The arh foundation's mission is to advance healthcare, education, and community involvement in eastern kentucky and southern west virginia through philanthropy and fundraising for appalachian regional healthcare. As a charitable, tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization, the arh foundation provides donors with a meaningful opportunity to directly invest in the health and well-being of their communities, and thanks to the generosity and operational support of arh, 100% of every dollar donated can go towards helping those who need it most. The arh foundation is grateful for the support of its donors, who continue to show a deep commitment to creating healthier, stronger communities. The arh foundation has multiple funds including the general fund, arh employee emergency assistance fund, flood relief fund, and duanne thompson memorial community service fund, all of which help the arh foundation to live its mission each and every day. The arh healthcare system serves a region with some of the highest rates of uninsured and underinsured individuals in the nation. Staying true to its mission, arh delivers care to all patients regardless of their ability to pay. This includes providing charity care through a sliding fee scale, interest-free payment plans, and medical assistance loans. Arh also helps patients access financial aid, free or discounted medications, and connections to preventive care providers offering no-cost services. Additionally, arh implements outreach initiatives to identify and support uninsured individuals living with chronic conditions, empowering them to manage their health more effectively and independently.
