Senior Planet is the name of the award-winning set of program experiences through which OATSengages a diverse array of older adults and the organizations that serve them across America. Individual Senior Planet participants share a collective commitment to "Aging with Attitude and their active participation in the world-class programming that OATS delivers through a variety ofdelivery channels sparks measurable changes in outlook and behavior that produce outcomes in specific dimensions of a senior's life: increased social connection, improved health, greater financial security, more active participation as citizens and advocates, and access to new pathways to creativity.While OATS itself delivers Senior Planet programs in person in several key US markets and virtually at seniorplanet.org, the organization also offers a unique licensing program that enables hundreds of qualified community-based sites to provide in-person Senior Planet experiences to older residents in their local urban, suburban, and rural communities in more than 35 states across America.Below is a summary of the key accomplishments of OATS in 2024.2024 Key Projects:Senior Planet provided over 670,000 engagements to new and returning participants through our virtual, in-person, and licensing programs.Senior Planet offered over 3,400 live online classes in 2024, with participants representing all fifty states engaging in these programs over 430,000 times. Senior Planet also expanded its online programming and hotline hours to include Saturdays, marking the first time the organization has consistently offered weekend programming in its history. Fitness offerings continued to be popular among older adult participants. OATS continued live-streaming wellness classes on the Senior Planet YouTube channel and celebrated another year of the Senior Planet Sponsored Athlete program.Senior Planet centers in Plattsburgh, NYC, and Denver maintained their operations, while in-person training continued through partners in Texas, Maryland, and California . The organization also continued delivering in-person programs in collaboration with AARP state offices across the country. The newest Senior Planet Center in Miami, Florida officially opened its doors to participants in March of 2024. Senior Planet Miami will offer area residents continuous opportunities to access, use, and learn about new and emerging technologies and how to harness their power to improve their lives and communities - all in a safe and welcoming environment. Expansion of the Senior Planet Licensing Program:The Senior Planet licensing program powerfully equips local organizations across the country with the tools to help older adults access technology and use it to enhance their lives. Through an adaptable program model, the Senior Planet licensing structure works with community-based organizations to develop local trainers to deliver Senior Planet's proprietary curriculum and bring Senior Planet's world-class programs to older adults in their area. In 2024, the Senior Planet Licensing program grew to over 450 licensing sites nationwide, covering 35 states. Thought Leadership Highlights:OATS expanded its work in 2024 to support the growing need for access to digital literacy training for older adults across the country. In August 2024, OATS worked with the AARP Hawaii State Office to support the Generations Magazine Aging in Place Conference on Oahu. Senior Planet trainer Sherlyn Freeman led three live classes at the conference on topics including smart homes, digital wallets and streaming & smart TVs. In addition to participating at the conference, OATS West Regional Program Manager Ryan Kawamoto led a meeting with stakeholders, and Sherlyn taught two classes on AI and privacy management on Maui.In October 2024, OATS Executive Director Tom Kamber attended the Grantmakers in Aging conference in Detroit alongside the Director of Strategy of the Humana Foundation Keni Winchester. Together they presented on digital literacy, aging, and collaborative partnerships - and addressed the importance of bridging the digital divide for older adults.Press and Media Highlights: In 2024, OATS was selected as a Platinum Winner in the 2024 AVA Digital Awards for its "Aging with Attitude and Gratitude" video highlighting a Senior Planet licensing program partner in upstate New York. The video also garnered a 2024 Silver Telly Award in the category of Branded Content - Not-for-profit. The AVA Digital Awards also labeled OATS a Gold Winner for "Solving for X at the End of Life" an op-ed written by OATS Executive Director Tom Kamber for Next Avenue about the desire of older adults to fill their final days with meaningful experiences and leave their affairs in order. OATS was also a recipient of a 2024 Distinction in the 30th Annual Communicator Awards for its 2023 Senior Planet Sponsored Athlete public relations campaign. This award recognizes the success that OATS achieved in telling the stories of five older adult fitness ambassadors from across the United States.
